The Beddow School is a private, non-sectarian school for children from 2½ years of age through age 12. Our philosophy is based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Students must be 2½ years of age by September 1 in order to be considered for the primary level classes and 5 years of age by September 1 to be considered for the full day primary classes.
The Primary and Elementary teachers at The Beddow School are trained Montessorians. They hold Montessori diplomas appropriate to the level they teach, in addition to undergraduate or graduate degrees. The support staff includes administrative professionals and classroom aides.
The curriculums for the primary and elementary classes emphasize a phonetic approach in language development, and a concrete approach in mathematics, social studies, and science. The half-day primary class is for students age 5 and under and meets from 8:30 a.m. – noon. The full-day primary classes are for students who have reached the age of 5 by September 1st or age 6. Admission to the full-day primary class is dependent upon the readiness and is determined by the teacher and administrative head. School hours for the full-day primary classes and elementary classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
